Example Ice Shapes
NACA 23012 airfoil

The three subpages here illustrate the aerodynamic effects of four different ice shapes tested in full scale, high fidelity icing simulations, conducted in 2008 in the ONERA F1 subsonic pressurized wind tunnel located at the Fauga-Mauzac test center, south of Toulouse, France. The results were documented in the paper "Effect of High-Fidelity Ice Accretion Simulations on the Performance of a Full-Scale Airfoil Model", authored by Andy P. Broeren and Michael B. Bragg of the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois, Harold E. Addy, Jr., of the NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio, Sam Lee of the ASRC Aerospace Corporation, Cleveland, Ohio, and Frédéric Moens and Didier Guffond, both of ONERA.
